Sustaining ecosystems requires sustaining people.

Across the country, there is increasing recognition that many Black, Indigenous, and Latine women leaders, birth workers, organizers, and community advocates are navigating extraordinary levels of burnout, extraction, and underinvestment despite carrying critical leadership responsibilities within maternal health spaces.

We believe leadership is essential to systems change work, because ecosystems cannot thrive when the people carrying the work are consistently unsupported.

Grants

Grants made by the Alliance come through two funds: one managed by Alliance members and the other directed by our Community Advisory Committee. When requests for proposals are available, information will be included below. To see examples of previous RFPs visit our archive. To learn more about projects we are supporting or have supported in the past, see here.

Sponsorships

The Sponsorship Fund provides grants to grassroots organizations hosting community-driven events focused on promoting perinatal health in Black, Indigenous, and Latine communities. Sponsorships for standalone events or short-term programs are typically available on a quarterly basis. When applications are open, they will be accessible on this page.

Partnership Opportunities

Ensuring that the people carrying birth equity work forward remain visible, valued, and sustainably supported is central to its future. Through the Cecile D. Edwards Birth Justice Leadership Fund, we’re investing in community-rooted leadership, lived experience advocacy, and Black maternal health ecosystem sustainability across New Jersey.

Community Advisory Committee

NJBEFA’s Community Advisory Committee (CAC) is comprised of birth equity champions with lived experience who provide strategic counsel on opportunities to advance birth equity in New Jersey and guide funding decisions to ensure resources are directed to organizations working closest to the communities they serve.
